Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Spurs extended their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and delivered Everton their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees were undefeated in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the end of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman struck on two occasions from set-pieces in the first half to put their impressive record at risk, and they were failed to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - set up by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - nodded in a third to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender thought he had equalized the scores five minutes after Van de Ven's first goal, glancing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, missed a handful of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of fine saves to guarantee the London club went five away games without defeat in the English top flight.

But the VAR intervened, advising Craig Pawson to review the score on the screen and the referee decided that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in an illegal position and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory moves the manager's team into third place in the Premier League, a handful of points off local foes and table-toppers Arsenal.

The Merseyside club stay in 14th position and sit six points clear of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven fulfils duties at both ends of the field

Following a drab midweek display in the Champions League against Monaco, where they managed a mere two shots on target, Frank chose the French striker up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The summer signing was failed to influence the game before being replaced for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the end.

Centre-back Van de Ven transformed into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Spurs' opening strike came from a well-worked corner routine, with the midfielder heading the ball toward the six-yard box for an unmarked the defender to score.

And Ven de Ven - stepping up as captain in the Argentine's absence - notched his second in added time as he rose above Jordan Pickford to head home.

The Dutchman was just as impressive in defence, combining effectively with his defensive colleague as the pair dealt excellently with the numerous deliveries sent their way by Everton.

Everton analysis: Toffees missing finishing touch

Everton's new home had been a fortress, but it seems the novelty may have faded slightly and fans headed to the exits after Sarr's third for Tottenham.

The break in Everton's winning streak at home won't be a massive worry for the manager, but their striker situation are.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Everton's two established strikers - had netted only a single goal combined before Sunday's match.

And they were unable to add to that poor record on a damp and dreary night on Merseyside.

Beto's form was epitomized when he opted to overhead kick a golden opportunity from close range, even with having space and opportunity to reposition for a more conventional attempt that would have challenged Vicario.

The substitute, as well, failed to make an impact after replacing the starter in the 65th minute.

It was not for a shortage of chance. The majority of Everton's offensive moves came through the winger and the forward, who relentlessly whipped dangerous crosses into the Tottenham penalty area.
