Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
